Death toll in Etukrom Multi-vehicle crash rises to three

The death toll from Monday's fatal multi-vehicle crash at Etukrom near Bonsu Junction in the Eastern Region has risen to three after an 11-year-old girl succumbed to injuries sustained in the accident.

The Eastern Regional Public Relations Officer of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), DOIII Ohemeng Adu Aaron, confirmed the development to Citi News, saying the child died while receiving treatment following the crash, which occurred on Monday, August 3, 2026.

The accident involved a State Transport Company (STC) bus, a fuel tanker, a Mitsubishi pick-up and a Kia Sorento.

Two people were initially confirmed dead at the scene, while the STC bus, the fuel tanker and the Mitsubishi pick-up were completely destroyed by fire. The Kia Sorento also sustained extensive damage.

Seven injured victims—comprising five males and two females—were rushed to Hawa Memorial Hospital for treatment. However, the 11-year-old girl, who was among the occupants of the Kia Sorento, later died from her injuries.

The identities of the three deceased have not yet been officially released.

Personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service and other emergency response agencies were deployed to the scene to rescue victims, extinguish the fire and manage the aftermath of the crash.

The vehicles involved were a fuel tanker, a Mitsubishi pick-up with registration number GE 8602-17, a Kia Sorento with registration number GT 8601-14, and an STC bus with registration number GS 7050-22.

Authorities are expected to continue investigations to determine the cause of the accident.
