Health Ministry sets up committee to investigate unrest at Techiman-Krobo Nursing Training College

The Ministry of Health has constituted a seven-member committee to investigate the circumstances that led to the unrest at the Nursing Training College in Techiman-Krobo.

The committee, chaired by Prof. Vida Nyagre Yekong, brings together representatives from the Health Facilities Regulatory Authority, Bono East Regional Coordinating Council, the Nursing and Midwifery Council, the Conference of Heads of Health Training Institutions, the Ghana Nurse-Midwife Trainees' Association, the Ministry of Health and traditional leadership.

The committee's membership are Mr. Ahmed Bennett Mumuni, Nana Asa Akon Panin, Mrs. Hepthzebah Gyimah, Mrs. Isha Sena Iddrisu, Nashiru-Deen Akparibo and Dr. Inua Yussuf Issahaku, Esq.

The move follows the Ministry's decision on July 29 to temporarily shut down the college after what it described as persistent unrest and breaches of the institution's rules and regulations despite several interventions by stakeholders.

"The committee is expected to establish the facts surrounding the issues which led to the unrest in the school, review and determine whether existing policies, code of conduct and administrative procedures have been complied with, and make recommendations to the Minister for Health for appropriate action," the Ministry said in a statement issued on Monday, August 3.

According to the Ministry, the committee has also been tasked with submitting a comprehensive report to the Minister for Health on or before August 11, 2026.

"The committee is further expected to submit a comprehensive report to the Minister on or before 11th August, 2026," the statement added.

The college was closed on July 29 after the Ministry said some students continued to engage in conduct that disrupted academic activities and threatened the peace, safety and orderly administration of the institution despite meetings, counselling sessions and appeals by stakeholders, including the Bono East Regional Security Council.

The Ministry has said the temporary closure is intended to restore calm, protect lives and property, and allow the appropriate authorities to assess the situation before the college is reopened under conducive conditions.
