Ghanaians remember: African Unity needs One Voice

Ethiopia was never colonised. Out of 100 local languages, they chose Amharish as their main official language at the state level. The European settlers in the USA voted for English as their official language, while Canada opted for English and French. EU member states have many different local languages and communicate at the EU level in 24 different languages. The Catholic Church represents 1.4 billion believers who speak in hundreds of local languages, while the laws of the Vatican are in Latin, as are the Liturgy and certain Papal announcements and rituals. The traditional language of diplomats is French; the most popular business and tourist language is English.

Ghana has around 79 different languages. Colonised by the Portuguese, Danes, and British, Ghana, after independence, used English as its official language. Making a fresh new start to overcome the diversity of foreign rules, he looked beyond old traditions into the future. Nation building was an important part of his agenda. A nation as a collective and common body must speak with one voice at best. If not for English, what other national language would Ghanaians have chosen for nation building? How long would that process have lasted and how much hate would it have cost? It never happened; therefore, these questions are of academic nature only. Dr Kwame Nkrumah looked beyond Ghana to create the African Union in African Unity.

Diverse political, economic, social and cultural groups came together in Addis Ababa to work on African Unity in the African Union. For Africa to stand strong and tall as equals, and subsequently above the USA, Europe, Arabs, Asians, Americans, and Russians, one voice was and is needed.

The heated discussion in Ghana about introducing Mandarin (Chinese) into the curriculum and standardising Arabic in schools must be seen from a United Africa downwards to each member state. The building of the AU in Addis Ababa was built and financed by China, not by the collective efforts and contributions of African member states as a demonstration of African independence. The Chinese, through Galamsey, destroy Ghana's nature and cocoa plantations. Chinese, through the backdoor, using the power of money, want to take over Africa increasingly in the open.

To destroy a strong man is as simple as David had proven against Goliath. Know the weak spot of a man, go through that weak spot and from within he will fall. When China and the Arabs can win in Ghana, they march to Addis Ababa. After the AU building was launched for 15 years, no one knew the Chinese had installed listening devices into the concrete walls. Will history witness new colonisation by democratic voting?
