Cape Coast Mayor vows to protect community park, promises AstroTurf before redevelopment

The Mayor of Cape Coast, George Arthur, has assured residents of the metropolis that he will not allow anyone to destroy the community park that serves two public schools and the surrounding neighbourhood.

Addressing concerns about the park's future, the Mayor stressed that the facility remains an important public asset and plays a vital role in promoting sports, recreation, and community activities, particularly for schoolchildren and young people in the area.

He reaffirmed his commitment to safeguarding the park from any form of encroachment or development that would deprive the community of the much-needed recreational space.

According to the Mayor, the interests of the people will remain the Assembly's top priority, adding that no development project will be permitted on the site unless the community first benefits from a modern AstroTurf sports facility.

He assured residents that the Assembly is committed to ensuring the construction of the AstroTurf to provide students and the wider community with a safe and modern venue for sports and other social activities before any further decisions are taken regarding the land.

The Mayor reiterated his dedication to preserving the park for the benefit of students, residents, and future generations, describing it as a valuable public space that supports healthy living, youth development, and community cohesion.

He called on residents to remain calm and continue supporting the Assembly's efforts to protect public spaces while working together to promote the development of the Cape Coast Metropolis.
