SAT, 01 AUG 2026

Two people have died and eight others sustained injuries in a violent crash involving a Toyota Hiace and a broken‑down truck at Dompoase on the Cape Coast–Takoradi highway.

The accident occurred on Friday, July 31, prompting an emergency response from personnel of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) stationed at Komenda.

According to a GNFS statement, the rescue team arrived at 6:55 p.m. and found one person trapped inside the Toyota Hiace, registered AS 6145‑24. Firefighters successfully extricated the victim after a brief but intense operation.

Preliminary reports indicated that 10 people were onboard the Hiace. All sustained varying degrees of injury, with three initially listed as severely injured.

The victims were rushed to the Elmina Polyclinic for treatment. However, personnel from the National Ambulance Service later confirmed that two of the injured had died.

Eyewitnesses said the crash was triggered when an unidentified vehicle travelling from Takoradi toward Cape Coast attempted a dangerous overtaking manoeuvre.

The Toyota Hiace, heading in the opposite direction, reportedly swerved to avoid the oncoming vehicle but ended up crashing into a broken‑down truck with registration GN 2491‑14.

The GNFS says further details will be released as investigations continue into what has become yet another tragic incident on the busy highway.
