The Bekwai Circuit Court has sentenced a 38-year-old farmer, David Donkor, to 10 years' imprisonment with hard labour after finding him guilty of defiling a 13-year-old girl at Afoako, near Bekwai, in the Ashanti Region.
The conviction was secured on Friday, July 31, 2026, before His Honour Isaac Appiatu, who found Donkor guilty of one count of defilement, contrary to Section 101 of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29).
The prosecution, led by the Bekwai Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU), told the court that the offence was committed in December 2024 and was subsequently reported to the police by the victim's 27-year-old mother.
Following the report, Donkor allegedly absconded to avoid arrest.
Investigations later led police to Ntotroso in the Ahafo Region, where he was arrested on January 8, 2026, with support from officers of the Ntotroso Police after a request from the Bekwai Police.
He was later transferred to Bekwai to assist with investigations before being arraigned before the court.
During the trial, the prosecution tendered a medical report certified by a medical doctor to support its case.
After evaluating the evidence, the court found Donkor guilty and sentenced him to 10 years in prison with hard labour.
