2026 Mid-Year Budget Review full of English and empty payment – Afenyo-Markin 

Osahen Alexander Afenyo-Markin, the Minority Leader in Parliament, has dismissed the Government's Mid-Year Budget Review as uninspiring, describing it as “full of English and empty payment.”

Contributing to the debate on the Mid-Year Budget Review on the floor of Parliament, Osahen Afenyo-Markin said: “We're not interested in your books; we're interested in the economy of our pocket.”

He accused the Government of engaging in the political prosecution of opposition members, citing the case of Mr Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, whom he described as a “political prisoner.”

Osahen Afenyo-Markin said despite what he termed the political persecution of opposition figures, the Minority Caucus would continue to hold the Government accountable for its actions.

He further alleged that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration had failed to fulfil its campaign promises while discontinuing what he described as laudable initiatives, including the One District, One Factory (1D1F) programme introduced by the previous New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration.

The Minority Leader maintained that the Mid-Year Budget Review offered little hope to ordinary Ghanaians, insisting that the Government's policies were disconnected from the economic realities confronting citizens.

He said the Minority would continue to scrutinise the Government's policies and programmes to ensure accountability and safeguard the interests of the Ghanaian people
