Police arrest six suspected armed robbers on Kintampo-Tamale highway  

The Bono East Regional Police Command has arrested six suspected armed robbers and recovered GH¢300,000 during a targeted security operation on the Kintampo-Tamale Highway.

The suspects were apprehended on Sunday, July 19, 2026, along the Kintampo-Portor stretch of the highway following a joint operation involving police patrol personnel and the Counter-Terrorism Unit.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency in Techiman, the Bono East Regional Police Commander, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Shaibu Abubakari Sadique-Osei, said the operation led to the successful arrest of all six suspects.

The suspects have been identified as Abdul Sadat Ali, 24, the driver of a Toyota Voxy with registration number AS 1541-25; Sameed Issahaka, 24, a driver of a KIA Rhino with registration number AS 7337-19; Abdul-Rhaman Mashud, 21; Asigri Avoka, 25; Awini Stephen, 19; and Faisal Salifu, 26.

DCOP Sadique-Osei disclosed that two of the suspects were arrested at the scene of the robbery, while the remaining four attempted to flee but were pursued and apprehended by the security team.

He said all six suspects are currently in police custody assisting with investigations.

According to preliminary investigations, Sameed Issahaka, who was employed by the robbery victim, allegedly masterminded the attack by recruiting the other five suspects to carry out the operation.

The Regional Police Commander expressed concern over the increasing incidents of armed robbery along the highway and assured the public that the Police Service would intensify patrols and other security operations to curb criminal activities in the area.

He also urged young people to pursue lawful means of earning a living instead of engaging in crime and encouraged communities along the highway to cooperate with the police by providing timely information to help combat armed robbery and other criminal activities.
