In the heart of the GaDangme community lies the vibrant state of Osu, where the position of the Osu Noryaa Mantse holds significant power and legacy. This title, translating to "The King Who Develops The Land," signifies not only a political responsibility but an obligation to enhance the overall wellbeing of the state. The Osu Noryaa Mantse is distinct from the community liason position found in neighboring tribes, as this ruler must come from royal lineage and hail from one of the four royal quarters of Osu.

The historical journey of the Osu Noryaa Mantse is marked by the esteemed reign of His Majesty Jeroboam Yah Nii Armah Blackwell. Known in professional circles as Yahu Blackwell, crowned in May 2024 by the Osu Djaasze Chair and anointed by the Gods by the Osu Wurlomo Klottey. Taking on the stool name “King Armah Gbejelor 1st,” Lord first of House Adukpono We, Kinkawe, with the late Nii Seban Atsen VII as head of family.

His grace, Yahu Blackwell’s story transcends mere royalty; it is a tale of resilience and heritage. His lineage traces back seven generations to ancestors brought across the Atlantic as slaves, purchased from the Osu Slave Castle. They were housed on the Anchorage plantation in Northumberland County, Virginia, by Lord Joseph Blackwell, who served as a king's surveyor for King Charles I. The plight of Yahu Blackwell's ancestors took a pivotal turn in 1864 during the Civil War. As Northern forces moved through the Southern states, General Hugh Judson Kilpatrick invaded Northumberland County, leading to the liberation of Royston Austin Blackwell, Yahu's great-great-grandfather. With courage and determination, Royston rode to Maryland by horse and enlisted in the Civil War, serving bravely on the Revenue Cutter Tiger.

Fast forward to June 23, 2026, Yahu Blackwell continued the family tradition of leadership and reform by being named the GOP Senate nominee for Maryland's legislative district 8. His commitment to state leadership is most notably reflected through his robust educational reform. Under his guidance, one of the most ambitious education reform policy programs in Maryland's history has taken shape, aimed at enhancing educational opportunities for the state’s youth.
