Renowned cardiothoracic surgeon and former Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, Prof. Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng, is set to deliver the keynote address at the 14th John Evans Atta Mills Memorial Lecture as part of activities marking the 14th anniversary of the passing of former President John Evans Atta Mills.
His address will be on the topic “President John Evans Atta Mills, Fourteen Years On”.
Announcing the programme at a press conference in Accra, Chairman of the J.E.A. Mills Memorial Heritage, Hon. Alex Segbefia, said the memorial lecture will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, 22nd July 2026, at the Kofi Ohene-Konadu Auditorium of the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA).
Hon. Segbefia noted that the choice of Prof. Frimpong-Boateng as keynote speaker reflects the Heritage’s commitment to promoting national dialogue and preserving the legacy of the late President.
The lecture will be chaired by Hanna Serwaa Tetteh, the United Nations Under-Secretary-General and Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Libya, who also served as Ghana’s Minister for Foreign Affairs and Minister for Trade and Industry.
“Praising the calibre of the event’s leadership, Hon. Segbefia said, “Ms Hanna Serwaa Tetteh, as chairperson for the lecture, is an outstanding personality. Together, they form a formidable duo.”
He urged the public to attend the event, declaring, “This is a lecture that nobody should miss.”
On Friday 24th July 2026 at o'clock am, the President, John Dramani Mahama, will lay the wreath on behalf of the Republic of Ghana. Other wreaths will be laid for or on behalf of the Parliament of Ghana, the widow, Mrs Ernestina Naadu Mills, the family, the National Democratic Congress, the J.E.A Mills Memorial Heritage, and the Greater Accra Regional House of Chiefs at the Asomdwee Park.
On Saturday 25th July 2026, the President John Evans Atta Mills Memorial Hockey Tournament will be held at the Theodosia Okoh National Hockey Pitch, Accra.
The memorial lecture forms part of activities organised by the J.E.A. Mills Memorial Heritage to commemorate the 14th anniversary of the passing of President John Evans Atta Mills, who remains Ghana’s only Head of State to have died while serving in office.
