The Member of Parliament for Effia, Isaac Boamah Nyarko, has urged members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to put aside their differences and unite behind leaders elected at the party's internal polls.

His comments come at a time when the NPP continues preparations for its national executive elections amid growing calls for cohesion following the party's presidential primaries and ongoing internal contests.

Speaking on Accra-based Channel One TV's Breakfast Daily programme on Wednesday, July 15, the lawmaker stressed that while competition is expected during internal elections, party members must rally behind successful candidates once the polls are over to strengthen the party ahead of the 2028 general elections.

"The NPP is a united party. We shouldn't grow this party on the tangent of divisions... What we need to do as a party is that people should be given the opportunity to elect based on competence, based on what they believe they can do," he said.

Boamah Nyarko further observed that delegates are capable of making independent choices when given the opportunity, arguing that election outcomes should reflect competence rather than allegiance to political camps.

He said results from recent internal elections showed that delegates voted differently across various positions, demonstrating that they assessed candidates on their individual strengths rather than on factional lines.

According to him, the responsibility of preserving party unity does not rest solely with those who emerge victorious but also with candidates who lose the elections.

"When we complete these elections, it is not for the winner to now go and say, 'I want to unite the party.' It is for everybody who lost or won to be ready to come on board to prosecute the collective interest of this party."

Boamah Nyarko further expressed concern that the party had yet to witness a united front from all contestants following its presidential primaries, saying such a show of solidarity would reassure supporters of the party's readiness for future electoral contests.
