New Patriotic Party (NPP) communications team member Dennis "Miracles" Aboagye has suggested that his arrest by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) was politically motivated and linked to his decision to contest the party's National Communications Director position.

In his first public remarks since his release from EOCO custody, Mr. Aboagye noted that he was arrested just a day after declaring his intention to contest the internal party position.

"Four days ago, just one day after I declared my intention to serve our great party as National Communications Director, I was picked up and detained by EOCO," he wrote in a Facebook post on Wednesday, July 15, 2026.

He also alleged that misleading information had been circulated about the circumstances of his arrest.

"A false narrative was put out about my arrest, but Ghanaians are not fools, and neither are the good people of the New Patriotic Party. The facts and the truth will prevail!!" he proclaimed.

Mr. Aboagye maintained that the experience had not weakened his resolve to seek the communications leadership role within the NPP.

"Let me be clear: if the intention was to break me, it has failed. If the intention was to scare me, it has failed spectacularly," he said.

He added:

"I will lead New Patriotic Party's Communications Directorate to command the narrative, and no cell, no false story, no intimidation will change that."

Mr. Aboagye also expressed appreciation to party members, supporters and well-wishers who stood by him during his detention.

The former Executive Secretary of the Inter-Ministerial Coordinating Committee on Decentralisation (IMCCoD) was arrested at the Accra International Airport on Saturday upon his return from a trip abroad.

He was granted bail on Tuesday in the sum of GH¢50 million with three sureties, two of whom are required to justify the bond with properties of equivalent value.

EOCO has said the arrest forms part of ongoing investigations into alleged financial and procurement-related irregularities at the IMCCoD, adding that investigations are continuing.
