The government is pushing ahead with plans to establish one of the country’s largest palm processing factories within the Akyem Abuakwa Traditional Area in the Eastern Region.
Chief of Staff Julius Debrah announced the initiative during this year’s Ohum Festival at Kyebi, noting that President John Dramani Mahama is determined to harness the growing potential of Ghana’s emerging “red gold” industry and its expansive value chain, expected to create thousands of jobs for young people.
Speaking on behalf of the President, Julius Debrah appealed to Okyehene Amoatia Ofori Panin to work with traditional leaders across Akyem Abuakwa to identify and release suitable land for the commencement of the project.

Culture and tradition were on full display as chiefs and elders from across the Akyem Abuakwa State gathered at Eseho, the forecourt of Ofori Panin Fie in Kyebi, to pay homage to the overlord during the 2026 Ohum Festival.

This year’s festival, themed “Rejuvenating Our Customs for Sustainability and Nature Connection,” also witnessed the enstoolment of Nana Kwame Atuapong Ododobibiri as Akyem Abuakwa Amanonehene.

Minister of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Ahmed Ibrahim, reaffirmed the Mahama administration’s commitment to equitable development across all districts, adding that the President will account for his stewardship to the nation.
Okyehene Osagyefo Amoatia Ofori Panin urged the government to prioritise the teaching profession, improve conditions of service for teachers—whom he described as critical change agents—and continue nurturing future generations.
He further encouraged the government to secure financial support to enable contractors to return to stalled road and infrastructure projects and complete them without delay.
