The University of Cape Coast (UCC) has announced Saturday, August 1, as the date for the investiture of Professor Denis Worlanyo Aheto as its new Vice-Chancellor following his appointment by the University's Governing Council.
The ceremony is scheduled to take place at the New Examination Centre (NEC) on the UCC campus at 10:00 a.m., according to a press release issued by the university on Thursday, July 2.
Professor Aheto takes over the position after serving as Pro Vice-Chancellor and Acting Vice-Chancellor, bringing to the office years of experience in academia, research and university administration.
"He ascends on to the prestigious 'VC's throne' as an astute academic, distinguished Lecturer and an accomplished administrator. He is an outstanding team player, resourceful leader, and results-oriented researcher with a strong passion for grants success and resource mobilisation," the statement read in part.
The university noted that Professor Aheto also serves as an Adjunct Professor at the Faculty of Environment of the University of Waterloo in Canada and has made significant scholarly contributions in the areas of coastal ecosystem conservation and ocean governance.
It added that he represents several donor-funded institutional projects in marine, coastal and fisheries management at UCC, with support from organisations including the World Bank, African Union, JICA, the former USAID, DANIDA and the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada.
The investiture will formally usher Professor Aheto into office as Vice-Chancellor, marking the beginning of his tenure as the institution's substantive leader.
