Government appoints Brig. Gen. Okae-Yeboah to lead nationwide flood mitigation task force

The Government of Ghana has appointed the Director General of Joint Operations at the Ghana Armed Forces, Brigadier General Forster Okae-Yeboah, to head a nationwide flood mitigation exercise following the devastating floods that recently affected parts of the Greater Accra Region.

The appointment follows the June 29 floods, which, according to the Minister for the Interior, Mohammed Mubarak Muntaka, displaced more than 38,800 people and claimed 12 lives.

The announcement was made by the Minister for Government Communications in a Facebook post, where he disclosed that Brig. Gen. Okae-Yeboah has been tasked with leading an aggressive nationwide operation aimed at tackling Ghana's recurring flooding problem.

"Meet Brigadier General Forster Okae-Yeboah, Director General, Joint Operations, Ghana Armed Forces. He has been tapped to lead an uncompromising, robust and all-action flood mitigation exercise," the Minister stated.

As head of the task force, Brig. Gen. Okae-Yeboah is expected to coordinate efforts to strengthen flood prevention measures, improve emergency response and implement interventions designed to protect lives and property across the country.

He is also scheduled to brief the public at 11:00 a.m. on the mandate of the task force and outline the strategies and operations that will be rolled out to address the country's persistent flooding challenges.

The appointment comes amid growing public concern over the destruction caused by the recent floods, which submerged homes and businesses, displaced thousands of residents and left several communities in Greater Accra struggling to recover.

Government is expected to use the upcoming briefing to announce both immediate response measures and long-term flood mitigation strategies aimed at reducing the impact of future flooding and strengthening the country's disaster preparedness.
