High Court Orders Extradition of ‘Abu Trica’ to U.S. in Alleged $8m Romance Scam Case

A High Court in Accra has ordered the extradition of Fredrick Kumi, popularly known as “Abu Trica,” to the United States to face charges linked to an alleged $8 million romance‑fraud scheme.

His lawyer, Oliver Barker‑Vormawor, confirmed the development in a Facebook post, describing the ruling as “fast‑tracked” and suggesting the matter is likely headed for the Supreme Court.

Posting on Thursday, July 2, Barker‑Vormawor — who is currently outside Ghana on official duties — wrote:

“I am out of Ghana for work. I just heard that the case of Abu Trica has been fast tracked and a judge has just ordered his extradition. Hmmm. FBI 1 – Abu 1. I guess this issue goes to the Supreme Court.”

The extradition order follows earlier proceedings in which the Accra High Court granted Kumi GH¢30 million bail with two justified sureties after months in custody.

Abu Trica has been detained since December 2025, with U.S. authorities seeking his transfer over allegations of romance fraud.

The ruling is expected to trigger intensified legal action, with possible appeals likely to determine whether the extradition ultimately proceeds.
