The Ghana Communication Technology University (GCTU) has suspended all academic lectures until Monday, July 6, after devastating floods that swept through parts of Accra affected some of its students.
In a notice posted on its official social media platforms, the university announced that management had directed the temporary suspension of both online and in person lectures.
“The University Community is hereby informed that, by Management’s directive, all lectures (online and face-to-face) are temporarily suspended until Monday, 6th July, 2026, due to the devastating effects of the recent floods on some students,” the statement said.
The university indicated that further information would be communicated through its official platforms and appealed to students for their understanding during the temporary disruption.
“The University regrets any inconvenience this temporary suspension may cause and appreciates your understanding and cooperation,” the notice added.
The decision comes in the wake of Monday's torrential rainfall, which caused widespread flooding across several parts of the Greater Accra Region, leaving roads submerged, homes damaged and thousands of residents affected.
Emergency response teams were deployed to several flood-hit communities, including Alajo, Circle, Kaneshie, Mallam and Tse Addo, where floodwaters stranded residents and motorists and disrupted normal activities.
GCTU joins a growing number of tertiary institutions whose academic activities have been affected by the flooding. Earlier, the University of Ghana also suspended lectures and advised students to remain indoors after floodwaters made movement on and around its campus unsafe.
