Bibiani-Anwiaso-Bekwai Municipal Assembly embarks on sensitization campaign against drug abuse

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Bibiani-Anwiaso-Bekwai, Hon. Sebastian Obeng, has revealed that the Assembly has intensified sensitization programmes aimed at discouraging the youth from drug abuse and other antisocial behaviours, in line with government policy on public health.

Hon. Obeng made the disclosure in response to the growing trend of drug abuse reportedly affecting several young people within the municipality. He noted that the Assembly, in collaboration with the central government, has been working tirelessly to curb the menace and protect the future of the youth.

According to him, the Assembly remains committed to supporting individuals and organisations championing anti-drug campaigns to strengthen ongoing efforts across the municipality.

“We want our youth to be responsible citizens who can contribute meaningfully to the national development agenda,” the MCE stated.

Hon. Obeng further warned that drug addiction—particularly the use of substances such as cocaine and tramadol—destroys lives, ruins mental and physical health, and significantly reduces one’s chances of securing gainful employment in both the public and private sectors.

He stressed that although more job opportunities are being created, only individuals who are physically and mentally sound will be able to take advantage of them.

The MCE assured that the government, under President John Dramani Mahama, remains committed to youth welfare, especially in the area of job creation.

In conclusion, he urged young people to be responsible and refrain from drug abuse and other antisocial behaviours so they can secure employment and build meaningful lives when opportunities arise.
