NPP council of elder urges transparent, credible constituency elections

Mr Yaw Dabie Appiah Mensah, a member of the Council of Elders of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Bono Region has cautioned the leadership of the party to be more transparent and credible in the impending NPP internal elections.

He said the conduct of the constituency elections in particular ought to be characterized by credibility and fairness.

He advised the NPP leadership to guard against tendencies that could create unnecessary suspicions of election riggings that could potentially disintegrate the party and narrowed its political chances in the Election 2028.

The leadership of the largest opposition NPP has set July 2026 to elect its various constituency executives for the Election 2028.

Mr Mensah called on the former Vice President Alhaji Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, the NPP’s Election 2028 Flagbearer to be more interested in the constituency executive elections and to ensure that the elections were not rigged in favour of a particular aspirant.

“If that happens, then that will have implications and repercussions in building and strengthening a formidable NPP for the Election 2028”, he cautioned.

Mr Mensah, popularly known in the political space as “Orga” and also former Organiser of the NPP in the then Brong-Ahafo Region gave the caution in an interview with the media at Odomase in the Sunyani West Constituency.

He emphasised that a high level of credibility in the party’s internal and constituency executive elections remained unparalleled in building and strengthening party unity and formidability.

The former organiser urged the leadership of the party to be more open and to ensure fair, transparent, and credible elections in the supreme interest of the NPP in winning election 2028.

Mr Mensah reminded the leadership of the NPP that various aspirants would accept the outcome of the elections wholeheartedly, and without qualms “only if there aren’t suspicions of rigging and prejudice”.

He stressed that the various constituencies remained the strong pillars and hopes of the NPP, saying that the party therefore required loyal and patriotic executives “ready to die for the NPP”.

Accordingly, Mr Mensah urged the party delegates to make informed choices and ensure that they elected competent executives to run the affairs of the NPP at the constituency levels.

He was highly confident that Alhaji Dr Bawumia could lead the party to recapture political power in the 2028 General Election.

Nonetheless, Mr Mensah called on the Flagbearer and the party leadership to do more to make the NPP more formidable by identifying, engaging disgruntled members and resolving challenges that contributed to the party’s defeat in the election 2024.
