Former Vice President and 2028 presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has expressed sympathy to persons affected by the floods caused by heavy rains in parts of the country.
The heavy downpour on Monday, June 29, resulted in flooding in several parts of Accra and other areas, displacing residents, disrupting movement and causing damage to property.
In a social media post, Dr. Bawumia extended his condolences to affected families and called for support for those impacted by the floods.
"This morning, my thoughts and prayers are with the thousands of our people affected by the floods. My deepest sympathies to those who have lost their loved ones, properties, and those who have been forced out of their homes," he wrote.
The former Vice President urged citizens to comply with directives issued by the government and cooperate with institutions responsible for managing the emergency situation.
He also appealed to emergency services and other relevant authorities to intensify efforts to assist affected residents and reach people in distress.
According to him, national solidarity and support for one another would help the country overcome the challenges posed by the floods.
Dr. Bawumia further expressed hope that the country would emerge stronger from the difficult situation and prayed for the safety of all affected persons.
The floods followed hours of heavy rainfall on Monday morning, prompting safety advisories from the Interior Ministry and emergency agencies, which urged residents to avoid flooded areas and unnecessary travel.
Emergency response agencies, including the Ghana Police Service, the Ghana Armed Forces, the Ghana National Fire Service and the National Disaster Management Organisation, have since been deployed to affected areas to support rescue and relief efforts.
