The Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) has published a list of 80 institutions that are currently not recognised by the commission due to various quality assurance concerns.
"GTEC wishes to inform the general public that the institutions listed below are currently not recognized by the Commission due to various quality assurance concerns," a notice dated June 25, read in part.
The commission further advised prospective students, employers and the general public to be cautious when dealing with the listed institutions.
"Accordingly, the general public is advised to exercise due diligence with regard to any certificates issued by these institutions," GTEC noted.
The affected institutions include both local and foreign entities operating in Ghana or offering programmes to Ghanaian students.
Some of the institutions on the list include Universidad Azteca in Mexico, Atlantic International University in the United States, Monarch Business School in Switzerland, Volta University College in Ghana and Nigeria, and Texila American University in Guyana.
The list also features several institutions located in Ghana, including Debest College of Science, Arts and Business, Doxa Open University, Kingdom Living Bible Institute in Kumasi, Global Professional College in Effiduase, OAA Consulting Limited in Kumasi and the Competency School of Business Administration in Kumasi.
The commission's latest notice forms part of efforts to safeguard the quality and integrity of tertiary education in Ghana and to protect students from enrolling in institutions that do not meet the country's regulatory and quality assurance requirements.
