The Volta Regional Minister, Hon. James Gunu, has announced that the Volta Region is currently undertaking 271 GETFund and other major government projects aimed at improving infrastructure, healthcare, education and economic development across the region.

He made the announcement on Friday, June 19, 2026, during the General Meeting of the Volta Regional House of Chiefs in Ho, where he presented a comprehensive update on government interventions. As part of efforts to promote transparency and accountability, the Minister invited Heads of Departments and Agencies to attend the meeting and respond directly to concerns and questions raised by members of the House.

Hon. Gunu said the projects span key sectors including education, health, agriculture, water supply, roads, tourism, coastal protection and economic development. He noted that the region is benefiting from 271 GETFund projects, the implementation of the Free Primary Healthcare Programme, the completion of five Health Kiosks, ongoing road works under the Big Push Infrastructure Programme and the rollout of eighteen 24-Hour Economy Markets.

The Minister also updated the House on the progress of the Keta Port and Harbour Development Project, the Blekusu Sea Defence Phase II Project, the Sogakope Water Supply Project and the proposed Amedzofe-Biakpa Zipline Project, which is expected to become the longest zipline in West Africa when completed.

On agriculture, Hon. Gunu said government had distributed about 180,000 birds under the Akukor Nkitinkiti Programme to boost poultry production and improve livelihoods in the region.

The Minister for the Interior, Hon. Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, commended traditional authorities for their contribution to peace and security in the Volta Region. He stressed that sustained collaboration between chiefs, security agencies and government remained essential to preserving the region's reputation as one of the most peaceful in the country.

The meeting also gave members of the Volta Regional House of Chiefs the opportunity to engage government officials on development priorities and governance issues affecting their traditional areas.
