The game of politics is not about insults and the spewing of lies but how to govern a nation successfully for the collective benefit of all. However, the Ghanaian understanding of politics as demonstrated by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) is how far you can lie amid the rain of insults on your opponents to win political power.
The NDC have made the game of politics look dirty and indeed, it does. Right from their leader the president, through their party leaders to their ordinary members and supporters in the street, they lie and insult a lot. Lying and insulting are their most effective weapons and means of winning general elections in Ghana.
The writer is not accusing them of false characteristics to paint them black for the joy of it. They are truly and indeed what they are described here of being.
To win political power, they accused then President John Agyekum Kufour of all sorts of lies and nonsense. They told Ghanaians he had fathered twins by one paramour Giselle Yajzi and again, stole public funds to build for himself and children a hotel in Accra they teasingly named as “Kufour Hotel Waawaa”.
They repeatedly told the whole nation how former President Nana Akufo-Addo was hiring an expensive jet for his foreign travels, bathing, and urinating while airborne. This accusation was spearheaded by Mr Okudjeto Ablakwah, the current Minister for Foreign Affairs. How ignoble he was and has always been!
For the sake of winning political power, the NDC will go any length and are capable of anything or else, they wouldn’t have created the Ministry of Propaganda with an appointed Minister for Propaganda. First to be seen and heard of in the annals of Ghana politics.
However, when they win political power, lacking the art of governance, they are known to be experts who come to amass illegal wealth.
Did then presidential candidate John Dramani Mahama not promise to dig a borehole in each Ghanaian cocoa farmer’s cocoa farm, a lie far bigger than the mockery they made of Nana Akufo-Addo’s promise of “One Village One Dam”?
The writer may not have done proper research on the following so must be pardoned if he erred. It is alleged that President John Dramani Mahama rents his younger multi-millionaire’s private jet for his foreign travels. If it is true, what is the difference between his and Nana Akufo-Addo’s? Could it be that he enriches a Ghanaian and in that matter his brother while Nana Akufo-Addo enriches an outsider?
About the NDC being infatuated with lies, their former Central Regional Chairman Allotey Jacobs came out to confess it, went to former President Agyekum Kufour to beg for his pardon and God’s forgiveness.
The ensemble of the NDC leaders is noted for lying the same as they breathe. Nevertheless, Ghanaians buy into their lies all of the time.
I don’t blame them but us, for being ignorant and more amenable to their lies, taking whatever they throw at us hook, line, and sinker.
Until Ghanaians become politically savvy, the politicians, especially the NDC, will continually take us for big fools.
The writer is sick and tired of the NDC lies and how Ghanaians continuously believe them and vote massively for them.
Are we not being big fools here, if I may ask?
Do decent politics, both NPP and NDC. Minimise your desire to see the political arena as a place of making quick but illegal wealth.
The writer is a proud and fearless son of Kumawu/Asiampa soil and again, the voice for the voiceless.
