Napo Donates Medical Equipment, Play Materials to KATH Children’s Wards on His Birthday

Former Minister for Energy and 2024 New Patriotic Party (NPP) vice‑presidential candidate, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, has donated medical equipment and play materials to children’s wards at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) as part of activities marking his birthday celebration.

The donation, made on Sunday, benefited the B3, B4, B5 and C5 children’s wards and included a wide range of essential medical items aimed at improving healthcare delivery for young patients.

Among the equipment presented were pulse oximeters, axillary thermometers, suction machines, drug crusher bowls, cardiac monitors, perfusers, drip stands, nebulizers and pediatric blood pressure monitors.

Dr. Opoku Prempeh — popularly known as Napo — also donated recreational and educational materials for the wards’ playrooms, including children’s tablets, balls, handheld water toys, plastic building blocks and colourful reading books.

Speaking after the presentation, Napo said the gesture was inspired by his desire to share love and hope with children receiving treatment at the facility while supporting healthcare professionals with the tools needed to deliver quality care.

He noted that the donation forms part of his annual tradition of giving back to society and supporting vulnerable groups, especially children facing health challenges.

According to him, individuals blessed by God have a responsibility to extend support to the less privileged, stressing that acts of kindness should not be reserved only for the wealthy.

“Supporting the vulnerable is a collective responsibility. Every person can make a difference in the life of someone in need, regardless of their financial status,” he said.

Dr. Opoku Prempeh encouraged Ghanaians to cultivate a culture of giving and compassion, emphasising that society becomes stronger when citizens support one another.

Deputy Director of Nursing Services at KATH, Madam Abigail Amoah, expressed appreciation to the former minister for the timely intervention. She said the equipment would significantly enhance patient care in the children’s wards, while the play materials would help create a more child‑friendly environment for young patients.

She commended Dr. Opoku Prempeh for his generosity and concern for the welfare of children and offered prayers for God’s continued blessings upon his life.

The donation adds to ongoing efforts by individuals and organisations to support healthcare delivery at KATH, one of Ghana’s leading referral hospitals serving patients from across the country.
