The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced that measures are underway to facilitate the return of Ghanaian nationals in Cambodia who have expressed interest in coming home.

It said Ghana’s High Commission in Malaysia, which is concurrently accredited to Cambodia, has between March and May 2026 facilitated the evacuation of 85 Ghanaians from the Asian country.

In a statement issued on Friday, May 29, the Ministry said measures are in place to evacuate additional 76 Ghanaians.

“It is worth noting that arrangements are ongoing to equally facilitate the evacuation of an additional seventy-six (76) Ghanaian nationals who are currently in Cambodia and have expressed the desire to return home,” the Ministry stated.

Meanwhile, the Ministry also denied, following engagement with Cambodian authorities, a recent circular claiming Africans are being ordered to leave the country by May 31.

According to the Ministry, the notice, which sparked fear among affected nationals and their families, has been confirmed by Cambodian authorities to be false.

“The Ministry wishes to assure the public that following diplomatic engagements with the relevant Cambodian authorities, it has been confirmed that the said notice is absolutely fake and was not issued by any state institution in Cambodia,” the statement said.

The fake circular alleged that citizens from Ghana, Kenya, Cameroon, Uganda and other African countries risked jail terms, financial penalties and deportation if they remained in Cambodia beyond the stated deadline.

Similarly, Cambodia’s General Department of Immigration under the Ministry of Interior has also issued an official clarification, describing the publication as “completely untrue.”

I hope NDC will not do the mistake they did in year 2000 again. I was at Libya 🇱🇾 in that year 1998-2000 when former President Rawlings evacuated us from Libya , very painful experience I will never wish on anyone. We were not given money as they are doing now when we landed at Accra airport. They gave us injections and directed us to our buses for various districts capitals . That was it and that was former President Mills and NDC mistake. When we landed at our district capitals...
