The Ministry of Defence has inaugurated a committee to develop a policy document for the establishment of the Ghana Armed Forces Home Ownership Scheme.

The move forms part of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC)’s manifesto promise to provide a housing ownership framework for personnel of the Ghana Armed Forces.

Deputy Minister for Defence, Ernest Brogya Genfi, disclosed the development in a social media post on Thursday, May 28.

“In fulfillment of the NDC Manifesto promise to establish Ghana Armed Forces Home Ownership Scheme, a Committee has been inaugurated today by the Ministry of Defence to produce a Policy document for that purpose,” he stated.

According to the Deputy Minister, the committee is chaired by the Principal General Staff Officer (PGSO) of the Ministry, Brigadier General Ben Gah.

Other members include representatives from the Office of the President, Ghana Home Ownership Fund, Ministry of Works and Housing, Ghana Armed Forces, State Housing Corporation, National Development Planning Commission and Veterans Administration, Ghana.

Mr Brogya Genfi said the committee has been directed to work efficiently and engage all relevant stakeholders in developing the policy framework.

“The Committee has been tasked to be practical, consultative and work with a sense of urgency,” he noted.

The proposed scheme is expected to address housing challenges facing military personnel and also support government’s broader housing and welfare agenda for security services.
