The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has intensified efforts to deepen regional integration through its Cross-Border Cooperation Support Programme (ECBCSP).

The commitment was held at an annual stakeholders’ meeting held in Abuja, Nigeria.

The meeting brought together representatives from Member States, National Border Offices, and ECOWAS officials to assess progress made under the ECBCSP 2023–2027 framework.

Discussions focused on the implementation of community-based development projects aimed at improving living conditions in border areas while strengthening peace and cross-border relations.

In a news release issued on Thursday, May 21, the regional bloc noted that the forum reviewed ongoing interventions across Member States, including the rehabilitation of schools and health facilities.

It also highlighted the construction of boreholes and wells, as well as the provision of sanitation infrastructure in several border communities.

According to ECOWAS, these projects are designed to directly improve livelihoods while promoting socio-economic development and stability in border regions.

The regional body reiterated that cross-border cooperation remains a key pillar in its broader integration agenda for West Africa.
