The children, family and followers of Chief Apostle Maurice Danquah, of blessed memory, founder of the Word Ministry International, have launched a legacy foundation to honour his enduring impact.

The late Apostle led a ministry that transformed many lives through the preaching of the gospel and demonstrations of spiritual power during the 1980s, particularly across Adaklu in the Volta Region.

The foundation was unveiled during a 30-year memorial commemoration held in April 2026, at the Christlike Youth Association auditorium. The foundation's vision is “to become a trusted, professionally governed institution that sustains and multiplies Apostle Danquah's passion for soul winning, leadership development and holistic community transformation for generations.”

Speaking in an interview, Pastor Mrs Mabel Danquah Nortorkpe, one of his daughters, explained that the initiative was born out of a collective resolve among the family to preserve and advance their father’s vision. She noted that although many of the children are not actively involved in the church today, they remain committed to supporting its growth and continuity.

She recalled that the man of God had a vision to develop a community hospital, a Bible school, leadership training centres and a place of refuge for the needy. According to her, the Apostle was blessed with a four-acre parcel of land for this purpose which is also at the site where he was buried.

“We cannot carry the burden alone. We must share the vision,” she said, adding that the establishment of the foundation is aimed at mobilising support to ensure the realisation of these long-held aspirations. She expressed confidence that with prayer and collaboration, the vision would come to pass.

Pastor Nortorkpe further outlined that the foundation would prioritise reviving the Apostle’s mission work, many of which have become inactive over the years. She stressed the need to support churches in remote areas, train and raise new pastors, and guide younger members of the church to understand and continue the vision.

The foundation will also focus on empowering the youth within the church and beyond, ensuring that they are grounded in the principles that guided the late Apostle’s ministry. Through structured programmes, it aims to build leadership capacity and strengthen faith-based community development.

On the life and ministry of the late Apostle, she described him as a transformational leader who rose from humble beginnings. Born into a traditional idol-worshipping home, he was seen as the “light” prophesied by his father before his death. He went on to become a strong spiritual figure who championed change and led with purpose.

She recounted that he did not wait for challenges to come to him but rather pursued solutions that brought transformation. Among his notable contributions was the establishment of a primary school during the early years of his ministry, which has since been absorbed into the public education system at Adaklu in the Volta Region.

She added that the 30th anniversary will be celebrated at Adaklu on Saturday June 13 2026.

Further insights into his life were shared by Mr Emmanuel Ahedor, believed to be his first convert. He narrated that the Apostle initially trained as a mechanical engineer and served as a tutor at the School of Mines in Tarkwa before travelling to Nigeria in search of better opportunities.

According to him, the turning point in the Apostle’s life came after a period of personal struggle, which led him to seek spiritual intervention. Following a period of fasting and prayer, he received a divine revelation instructing him to preach repentance, a mission that eventually brought him to Adaklu.

Mr Ahedor explained that at a time when Pentecostalism was not widespread in the area, Apostle Danquah introduced teachings on the Holy Spirit and led a wave of spiritual awakening. His ministry expanded across Ho, Aflao, Joapong and into neighbouring Togo.

He recounted several testimonies of miracles, including healings, deliverances and what he described as a resurrection, which drew many people to the faith. “He performed a lot of signs and wonders. You cannot recount all of them,” he said.

The Apostle was also known for his intense spiritual discipline, often engaging in prolonged fasting and prayer, including a yearly 40-day fast. His mission, according to Mr Ahedor, was centred on breaking spiritual strongholds and leading people to repentance.

Despite the relatively short duration of his ministry, his influence was profound and far-reaching. His legacy, according to many, continues to shape lives and communities, even decades after his passing.

Delivering a message at the event, Reverend Dr Peter Etse, Director of the Christlike Youth Association, urged participants to reflect deeply on their identity, purpose and potential. He emphasised that understanding one’s purpose in life is essential to fulfilling one’s divine assignment.

“You should be able to identify who you are and know your purpose,” he said, adding that recognising one’s strengths and weaknesses is key to personal growth and success.

Reverend Etse also highlighted the importance of building on the legacy of great leaders such as Apostle Danquah. He noted that the late Apostle had a strong desire to extend the gospel to underserved communities, a vision that the foundation seeks to sustain.

He further indicated that beyond missionary work, the foundation would support educational advancement for underprivileged but capable children, enabling them to pursue their academic goals.

Encouraging public support, he stated that although the Apostle passed on 30 years ago, his impact remains alive and relevant. “We want to support this legacy so that generations yet unborn will benefit from it,” he said.

The launch of the foundation marks a renewed commitment by the family, church and partners to preserve the memory and mission of Chief Apostle Maurice Danquah, ensuring that his vision continues to inspire transformation across communities.
