Most adherents of the Danquah–Busia political tradition are dishonest, unpatriotic, envious, and hypocritical. Anytime they find themselves out of power, they shamelessly criticise and condemn the very things they are guilty of.
Listening to them while they are out of government, and reflecting on their performance while in office, one observes people with what appears to be dual personality traits.
It also appears that the Danquah–Busia political tradition prioritises foreign interests over the nation’s survival. Recently, we saw how aggressively they opposed Mr. Samuel Nartey George, the Communications Minister, in his battle with the Telecom companies and MultiChoice Ghana Limited. We also witnessed the frustration that Engineers & Planners Company Limited, owned by Mr. Ibrahim Mahama, went through before taking over the Azumah Resources Ghana Limited in the north and the Damang Gold Mine in the western region
The New Patriotic Party, if it is truly patriotic as its name suggests, should champion and support Mr. Ibrahim Mahama in expanding his operations in the mining sector, since gold is the mainstay of the economy. However, due to unbridled envy and hostility towards him, there have been fabrications and untruths spread about him and his company.
Fortunately, Ghanaians have seen Ibrahim Mahama’s contributions to the development of Ghana, as well as Ken Ofori-Atta’s mismanagement of the economy. Both individuals come from similar privileged backgrounds sons of politicians, brothers of presidents, and businessmen. While Ibrahim Mahama has built an enviable reputation for his forebears, Ken Ofori-Atta has, in the eyes of many, damaged the legacy of his.
While Ibrahim Mahama is striving to build a world-class company in Ghana, Ken Ofori-Atta appears preoccupied with securing permanent residence in the United States.
While his conduct should have been a concern and a source of embarrassment to his political tradition, they have instead chosen to defend what many consider reckless behaviour. This attests to a flagrant disregard for the state of Ghana.
Considering some of the recent recipients of national awards, Ibrahim Mahama deserves one of the highest national honours for his voluntary service to Ghana, our motherland.
