The Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has disclosed that South African authorities have launched investigations into alleged xenophobic attacks targeting Ghanaian nationals.
The development follows widespread concern on social media after videos emerged showing some Ghanaians being assaulted in South Africa.

In response to the incident, the Minister said he has engaged his South African counterpart, Ronald Lamola, to seek clarification and immediate action.
In a statement shared on Wednesday, April 22, Mr. Ablakwa confirmed that the South African government has initiated steps to address the situation.
“The South African Foreign Minister has expressed his empathy with the victims and promised full scale investigations into the depressing incidents,” he said.
He further assured the public that Ghana’s diplomatic mission has already intervened and is providing support to affected individuals.
“I am gladdened that so far colleagues in our diplomatic mission have located the main victim in the viral video and are offering consular assistance. He is doing very well,” he added.
Ablakwa also indicated that South African authorities are expected to brief African ambassadors on the matter as investigations continue.
He emphasised that no Ghanaian life has been lost and urged calm among citizens, assuring that government remains committed to protecting Ghanaians both at home and abroad.
