Gender Ministry trains staff on cybersecurity and child online protection

The Research, Statistics and Information Management (RSIM) Directorate of the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection (MoGCSP) has trained staff on Cybersecurity and Child Online Protection.

The initiative, in collaboration with the Cybersecurity Authority (CSA), marked a significant step in aligning social welfare goals with national cybersecurity strategies and harmonising the Ministry’s child protection mandates with the CSA's technical expertise.

Discussions were centred on Ghana’s specific cybersecurity landscape, moving beyond general safety tips to address persistent and emerging digital threats that target minors.

The CSA provided a technical breakdown of the current threat environment, while Ministry staff provided context on the social realities of the beneficiaries they serve.

The Director of RSIM under the Ministry, Dr Sylvester Kyei Gyamfi, underscored the importance of equipping staff with the requisite knowledge and tools to effectively address issues of online safety, particularly as digital engagements continue to grow.

“The collaboration signals a growing institutional recognition that protecting children in virtual spaces requires bridging the gap between social protection agencies and technical cybersecurity institutions.

With ministry staff now trained in digital risk assessment, threat identification, and safety toolkit deployment, officials expect the initiative to significantly expand the Ministry’s operational ability to shield vulnerable children from online harm,” he emphasised.
