The Northern Regional Special Operations Team of the Ghana Police Service, popularly known as Red Maria, has arrested 10 Nigerian nationals in Wamale, a suburb of the Tamale Metropolis, over suspected involvement in internet fraud.
The suspects have been identified as Benjamin Ahmed, 29; Michael Monday, 25; Frank Chinadu, 25; Emmanuel Chukwuong, 25; Renew Onochie, 25; Francis Asisi, 25; Owen Umoh, 29; Shadrack John, 22; Okolie James, 27; and Purity Madubunachukwu, 17.
Confirming the operation, Northern Regional Police Public Relations Officer, Alhassan Luckman Niendow, disclosed that a search conducted at the suspects’ residence led to the retrieval of items believed to be linked to criminal activities.
According to him, officers recovered dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp, two sachets of 225 mg Tramadol, nine laptop computers, three SIM cards and eleven mobile phones, all believed to have been used in internet fraud and drug-related operations.
He further revealed that a follow-up operation at Yung, another suburb of Tamale, led to the arrest of Mohammed Hudu, 28, who was found with two sachets of 250 mg Tramadol.
All the suspects are currently in police custody assisting with ongoing investigations.
