A community group, the Association for Responsible Mining and Development (ARMD), has commended Heath Goldfields Limited, operators of the Prestea-Bogoso Mine, for its contributions to local development.

The group, made up of residents of Bogoso in the Western Region, said the company, despite only beginning gold production a few months ago, has already supported initiatives in education, healthcare, sanitation, and infrastructure. It also noted that service contracts for the mine have largely been awarded to local or Ghanaian-owned companies, helping retain economic value within the community.

Speaking at a press conference held in Bogoso, ARMD urged individuals opposing the company’s operations to desist, stressing that peace is essential for the mine’s success and community development.

Group spokesperson and Bepo Electoral Area Assembly Member, Thomas Yaw Enyam, highlighted a recent employment agreement between the company and local stakeholders as evidence of its commitment to shared benefits.

He disclosed that the mine has created over 1,400 direct and indirect jobs, alongside additional opportunities through more than 15 contracting firms and increased demand for housing and essential services.

He also praised the company for settling outstanding salaries, bonuses, and provident fund contributions owed to workers from 2024–2025 under the previous operator, as well as making payments toward debts owed to suppliers and institutions such as VRA, GRIDCo, and the Prestea-Bogoso Municipal Assembly.

Mr. Enyam added that plans to revive the Prestea underground mine and undertake legacy projects are expected to create further employment and boost local development, reinforcing the company’s commitment to its promises to the community.
