Dr. Khaliq: Thank you for keeping our heads held high

Feature Article Dr. Khaliq: Thank you for keeping our heads held high

To this venerable and distinguished Member of Parliament for Nanton, Hon Dr Mohammed SherifAbdul-khaliq, we say thank you for preserving the integrity of those who believe in you. At a time when some naysayers cast doubt on your capabilities, there were many who remained steadfast in their conviction that you were destined for greatness.

During the 2023 parliamentary primaries, although the positions some of us held as constituency executives did not permit us to openly campaign for you, we firmly believed that you were the most capable candidate to deliver the Nanton seat to the NDC. By the grace of Allah, the branch executives embraced your message and vision, selecting you from among many competent men and women who contested in that primaries.

As the campaign progressed, elements within the npp in the constituency sought to undermine your credibility with labels and distractions. However, the good people of the constituency saw beyond the noise, they recognized the rare value you embody. They did not merely vote for you; they entrusted you with their confidence, their hopes, and their future.

True to that trust, you have not only met expectations but exceeded them. You have demonstrated that servant leadership is not about empty rhetoric, but about action, sacrifice, and the courage to stand for the people you serve, even in the face of adversity.

When you were declared Member of Parliament-elect around 11 a.m. on December 8, 2024, emotions ran high. Some of us wept—not out of doubt or mere excitement—but because we understood the enormous responsibility that had been placed upon your shoulders. At that time, the people of Nanton had nearly lost faith in political leadership. They felt neglected, disappointed, and disconnected from the very system meant to serve them.

You stepped into that vacuum of leadership with determination and purpose. The hopes and aspirations of an entire constituency rested on you, and you embraced that burden with humility and resolve.

In just a little over a year, you have not only carried out your duties as a Member of Parliament with diligence, but you have also restored hope, revived confidence, and reawakened the aspirations of your constituents. Your leadership has become a symbol of renewal and a testament to what is possible when commitment meets sincerity.

Dr. Abdul-Khaliq’s journey is a reminder that leadership is not defined by titles, but by impact. It is not measured by promises, but by results. In a time when many have grown skeptical of political leadership, he stands as a shining example that integrity, vision, and service can still prevail.

As the people of Nanton look to the future, one thing remains clear: their faith in leadership has been renewed. And at the center of that renewal is a man who chose to lead not just with words, but with action, sacrifice, and unwavering dedication to his people.

May the good Lord continue to be with you as you navigate through to serving your people.

Thank you, Sir!
