Police assure adequate security for Ayawaso East by-election

The Ghana Police Service has assured the public of its readiness to provide adequate security before, during and after the Ayawaso East by-election scheduled for today, Tuesday, March 3.

The poll follows the death of the area’s Member of Parliament, Mahama Naser Toure, on January 4, 2026.

Five candidates are contesting the vacant seat, including the National Democratic Congress’ Baba Jamal and the New Patriotic Party’s Baba Ali Yusif.

In a press release dated March 2, and signed by Superintendent Juliana Obeng, Head of Public Affairs for the Accra Regional Command, the Police said comprehensive measures had been put in place to ensure a peaceful exercise.

“The Accra Regional Police Command wishes to assure the public of its preparedness to provide adequate security before, during, and after the Parliamentary Re-run at Ayawaso East Constituency scheduled for Tuesday, 3rd March, 2026,” the statement said in part.

According to the Command, adequate personnel have been deployed across all designated polling stations and key locations within the constituency.

“The Command has deployed adequate Police personnel across all designated polling stations and key locations to ensure a peaceful, transparent, and orderly electoral process,” it noted.

The Police further cautioned the public against violence, intimidation and the spread of misinformation, stressing that persons who breach the law will be dealt with in accordance with Ghanaian law.

It urged eligible voters to remain calm, act responsibly and report any suspicious activities to the security agencies.
