The Gbese District Court in Accra on Wednesday, February 25, remanded Frederick Kumi, popularly known as Abu Trica, into police custody following his re-arrest by the Narcotics Control Commission.
The court fixed March 18, 2026 for the next hearing as extradition proceedings seeking to transfer him to the United States continue.
His re-arrest comes shortly after he and his co-accused were discharged by the same court in relation to an indictment by United States authorities over an alleged $8 million romance scam said to have targeted elderly Americans.
The case, which drew international attention, accuses Abu Trica and others of orchestrating fraudulent online activities.
Although the court did not disclose the specific grounds for the fresh arrest, he is expected to remain in custody pending his next appearance as the extradition process moves forward.
