Minority Leader in Parliament and Effutu MP, Osahen Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has sharply criticised the government for its perceived lack of meaningful support for GoldBod and what he describes as limited achievements in its first year in office.
“They say they have a system in place where they are going to help our gold reserve. With respect to the activities of GoldBod, I do not think that the government is actually putting in place the supporting pillars to help GoldBod to even function well,” he said in an interview on Channel One TV’s The Point of View with Bernard Avle on Monday, February 16, 2026.
Osahen Afenyo-Markin argued that policy statements alone are insufficient, stressing that the government must establish robust structures and operational frameworks to ensure that GoldBod can function effectively.
He further criticised the administration for its slow progress during its first year, insisting that tangible outcomes are necessary to validate its policy initiatives and restore public confidence.
His comments add fuel to ongoing debates over the government’s economic management and its ability to translate policies into measurable results.
