The Director of Communications of the opposition New Patriotic Party, Richard Ahiagbah, has declared his intention to contest for the position of First Vice Chairman in the party’s 2026 internal elections.
Mr Ahiagbah is seeking the support of party delegates as he aims to play a more expansive leadership role in strengthening the NPP’s organisational framework ahead of future national elections.
His decision signals a shift from his current communications portfolio to a senior executive position within the party’s national hierarchy.
The First Vice Chairman is a strategic office within the NPP structure, tasked with assisting the National Chairman in managing party administration and coordinating internal operations across the country.
Party sources indicate that Mr Ahiagbah is expected to campaign on a message centred on unity, grassroots mobilisation and reinforcing internal cohesion as the NPP charts its path forward.
The 2026 internal elections are widely viewed as pivotal, with the outcome likely to redefine the party’s national leadership and shape its organisational direction in the years ahead.
