Ndoo, getting to the twilight of the premier month of this glorious year, the elephant clan had gathered. In this gathering they had sought, through representatives from across the country, the decision on who to lead the big but hollow elephant into another seemingly devastating defeat which would make a panegyric observation for political historians.
And in that gathering, they chose none but Bawumia, their Buwumya whose sins are still green in the minds of agonised Ghanaians. But what could they do? In the gathering of "blind" men, the one-eyed man becomes a king. Or as in the wording of one prominent Ghanaian, in the gathering of "sankwas" (low quality), nothing excites discerning people.
However, all this is not the headache today. It is the clear predetermined variable that team Bawumia and his befuddled centre-right activists seem to ignore or forget about: THE NPP HAS NEVER WON GENERAL ELECTIONS WITH A CANDIDATE who garnered below 60% of the delegates vote.
It has never happened, will not happen and may never happen.
Let me take you through the history and figures therein:
Summary Table
Year Winner (Flagbearer) % Won Notes
1992 Albert Adu Boahen. . 56.60% First NPP primary
1996 John A. Kufuor. 51.99% Defeated Adu Boahen
1998 John A. Kufuor .. . 64.60%
2003 John A. Kufuor . . . . 100% Unopposed
2007/08 Nana Akufo-Addo 47.97% Competitive field
2010. . . Nana Akufo-Addo 78.89%
2014 Nana Akufo-Addo 94.35%
2019 Nana Akufo-Addo 100%* Unopposed
2023 Mahamudu Bawumia. 61.43% Defeated three others
2026. Mahamudu Bawumia 56.48% Multi-candidate field
A cursory look at the table above shows the reality of Bawumia's bid. If history should repeat itself, which it always does on the side of the NPP, our Northern brother knitted into the leadership of Npp, would never see the Biblical Canaan. The percentage difference in any NPP primaries always speaks. They speak bitterness. They speak irreconcilable differences that the flagbearers have to bear.
When they speak below 60%, trust me, the candidate CANNOT WIN the presidential race.
And for the case of Bawumia, their Buwumya, it speaks of a group that is not ready to fall under his leadership. The percentages are speaking bitterness and disappointment over a man who once touted himself the economic Messiah, but now cowered under some bizarre digitalisation project after helping the modern day Ghanaian Pharoah, Akuffo Addo, to run our country aground.
For these sins, sensible members of the elephant clan cannot forgive the digital man. For this reasons, Ghanaians are buying time, to once again punish the man for his sins.
So Ndoo, the carousal around Buwumya's appearance on the ballot once again is nothing. It is much ado about nothing. It is a coffin. We, the hangmen wait to nail him shut, once and for all.
