OSP confirms deletion of INTERPOL Red Notice on Ken Ofori-Atta

The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has confirmed that the Commission for the Control of INTERPOL has deleted files relating to the Red Notice issued against former Finance Minister, Kenneth Nana Yaw Ofori-Atta.

A statement from the OSP said it had received the decision of the Commission regarding the Red Notice circulated through INTERPOL against Mr Ofori-Atta.

According to the Commission, the notice was deleted under INTERPOL's rules on political neutrality and notice processing.

It cited contextual factors at the time of issuance, including “polarized political statements from members of current and former administrations about the conduct of the investigation,” as well as public controversy surrounding prosecutorial and extradition processes.

The Commission also referenced public acknowledgment by Senior Officials at the Ministry of Justice and Attorney-General of an inability, at the time, to pursue extradition due to the early procedural stage of the case.

It further observed that subsequent developments rendered the notice unnecessary, as Mr. Ofori-Atta's location was known and cooperation with United States authorities was ongoing.

Extradition processes had already been initiated following his arrest in the United States on January 6, 2026.

It said summons issued by the Criminal Division of the High Court in Accra had been transmitted for service in the United States, requiring Mr. Ofori-Atta to appear and answer multiple criminal charges.

It noted that efforts to secure his appearance in Ghana were continuing through established legal and diplomatic channels.

The OSP reiterated that it remained guided solely by law and evidence and was committed to due process and the fair, lawful and impartial prosecution of corruption and corruption-related offences.
