Tourism Minister hails Guinness World Record as innovative for Ghana’s Creative Arts Industry

The Minister for Tourism, Culture, and Creative Arts, Madam Abla Dzifa Gomashie, has described the Guinness World Record as a significant milestone for the nation’s creative arts sector and a testament to the innovation, resilience, and global competitiveness of Ghanaian artists.

The Minister made this statement when she received the official Guinness World Record certificate from Ms Gharbin, who now holds the title for the Largest Beaded Sculpture (Bag).

Guinness World Records officially confirmed the achievement on December 8, 2025 and issued the certificate on January 15, 2026.

She commended the initiative for blending Ghana’s rich cultural symbolism with bold contemporary artistic ambition, noting that such accomplishments strengthen Ghana’s cultural diplomacy and elevate the country’s visibility on the international stage.

Ms Gharbin and her team earned global recognition after surpassing the Guinness World Records benchmark of 6 metres for the combined dimensions of the beaded sculpture. The monumental piece was handcrafted over 10 days in Prampram and is currently on display at Ocean Green Beach.

The record-breaking bag incorporates Ghana’s national colours and prominently features Adinkra symbols such as Nkyinkyim and Mpuannum, representing resilience, dynamism, loyalty, and excellence, values that reflect Ghana’s artistic identity.

Ms Gharbin said her team intentionally sought to position Ghanaian art history on the global map by pioneering a category that previously had no record holder for a beaded bag sculpture, explaining the inspiration behind the project

Beyond its cultural symbolism, the sculpture’s scale highlights the magnitude of the accomplishment. Its width is reportedly twice the size of a lotto kiosk, and its weight and dimensions require heavy-duty logistics for transportation.

The Ministry of Tourism, Culture, and Creative Arts is expected to further engage the creative team as part of broader efforts to leverage the achievement in advancing Ghana’s tourism and cultural promotion agenda.
