The Member of Parliament for Ho Central, Hon Edem Kofi Kpotosu, has outlined what he described as significant development interventions across health, education, agriculture, youth employment and social welfare within his first year in office, citing them as proof of his commitment to delivering tangible benefits to his constituents.
Hon Kpotosu made the presentation at a press soiree held in Ho on Monday, January 12, 2026, where he accounted for his performance over the past year and shared his vision for the constituency in the years ahead.
He stated that his work in Parliament is driven by a constituency first philosophy, explaining that his effectiveness in Accra must ultimately reflect in improved living conditions for residents of Ho Central. He noted that representing thousands of people comes with a deep sense of responsibility and accountability.
In the health sector, the MP announced the refurbishment of the Shia Health Centre and the donation of essential medical equipment, including drip stands and blood pressure apparatus. Autoclaves were also provided to the Deme Sreme and Taviefe Dzefe Avenya CHPS compounds to enhance infection control and service delivery. He further disclosed that discussions are underway with an investor to establish a Sickle Cell Centre within the constituency.
Hon Kpotosu said an extensive eye screening, treatment and surgery exercise was conducted in ten communities across Ho Central. According to him, 1,431 residents received consultations and medication, while 175 people successfully underwent eye surgery. He also mentioned the sod cutting ceremony held in partnership with the Kekeli Foundation for the construction of a CHPS compound at Hosita.
Touching on education, the MP said his office distributed 3,359 free mathematical sets to all 2025 BECE candidates in the constituency and provided meals for BECE invigilators. He also supported a health walk for BECE graduates and awarded scholarships to brilliant but needy students at the tertiary level.
Additional educational support included the distribution of 5,000 branded exercise books to basic schools and the donation of essential items such as trunks, mattresses, chop boxes and groceries to 20 Senior High School entrants. He further facilitated the donation of 20 new computers to Mawuli School and five computers to Akrofu Xeviwofe, as well as ten bundles of roofing sheets to Matse Senior High Technical School. In total, 138 students across various institutions benefited from scholarship support.
On agriculture, Hon Kpotosu announced the distribution of 1,500 cartons of weedicides to rural farmers and 10,000 cocoa seedlings to cocoa farmers in the constituency. He added that 1,000 cartons of liquid fertiliser were also supplied, while poultry farmers benefited from training programmes organised in collaboration with the Ministry of Food and Agriculture. Fertiliser support was extended to farmers, and a tricycle was sponsored for the Ho Municipal Farmers’ Day celebrations.
Addressing youth employment and entrepreneurship, the MP revealed that several young people were enrolled under the Youth Employment Agency in areas such as community protection, the fire service, prisons, the ambulance service and immigration. He also disclosed that 158 young people benefited from apprenticeship to setup programmes, with 18 sewing machines presented to graduating apprentices through cooperative associations.
In the area of water and sanitation, Hon Kpotosu said boreholes were refurbished at Takla Agbokofe Fulanikofe, Airfield School and the Atikpui Health Post to improve access to potable water. He announced plans to commission 30 boreholes across the constituency as an interim response to the ongoing water challenges in Ho.
He explained that the water shortages are not due to faulty pumps but persistent power fluctuations affecting water production. According to him, low voltage levels at the Ghana Water Limited pumping station at Kpeve have made it impossible to operate more than one pump at a time, significantly reducing supply. He noted that the issue has attracted national attention, with plans underway for a complete overhaul of the Ho water system as a long term solution.
As an immediate measure, the MP said the borehole commissioning exercise would begin on Monday, with drilling taking place in several communities. He described the initiative as a short term intervention to ensure access to underground water while efforts continue toward a permanent solution through Ghana Water Limited.
On sanitation and environmental sustainability, Hon Kpotosu commended Ho’s status as one of the cleanest regional capitals but acknowledged the challenges involved in maintaining such standards. He urged residents to play their part in keeping the municipality clean and healthy.
He also encouraged households to engage in simple home gardening, particularly yam cultivation, as a way of improving oxygen levels and supporting environmental health, hinting at possible incentives for households that actively participate.
Under social welfare, the MP listed donations of cement to the police depot, churches and development committees, contributions to the Lume Kpodoave water project through the provision of a pump and polytank, and the establishment of an MP’s office in Ho and a zonal office at Sokode. He added that welfare packages were distributed to 112 aged persons and widows, while funeral and church donations during the period exceeded GH¢50,000.
Reflecting on his first year in Parliament, Hon Kpotosu described the transition from campaigning to legislative work as demanding, citing the complexity of parliamentary procedures and committee responsibilities. He said building relationships across party lines has been crucial to effective law making and constituency advocacy.
He acknowledged challenges encountered, including limited releases from the District Assembly Common Fund, high public expectations and partisan political bottlenecks that often delay development initiatives.
Looking ahead, the MP outlined plans to pursue the completion of approved CHPS compounds, stalled GETFund projects, nurses quarters and road projects. He also pledged to champion the upgrade of the Ho Polyclinic paediatric ward and improve healthcare delivery in remote communities.
He announced plans to launch a Ho Central Youth in Business initiative to promote entrepreneurship and economic empowerment, alongside efforts to advance climate smart and sustainable agricultural practices among local farmers.
In his closing remarks, Hon Kpotosu expressed appreciation to the Ho Municipal Chief Executive, Hon Stephen Adom, and residents of the constituency for their support, pledging continued transparency, accountability and collaboration in pursuing shared development goals for Ho Central and the nation.
