Otumfuo Foundation Highlights 25 Years of Impact at CenBa Awards

Elaine Oppong–Peprah, Administrator of the Otumfuo Osei Tutu II Foundation, has revealed that for the past 25 years, the Foundation has played a pivotal role in advancing sustainable development, social equity and human empowerment across Ghana. Its interventions span education, health, water and sanitation, entrepreneurship and culture and heritage.

Ms. Oppong–Peprah made the remarks at the 7th edition of the CenBa Africa Business Excellence Awards, held Saturday at the Golden Bean Hotel in Kumasi.

“Established as a development vehicle for the vision of Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Foundation has consistently focused on long-term, people-centred solutions aimed at strengthening communities and improving livelihoods, particularly in deprived and rural areas”, she said.

According to her, education remains the cornerstone of the Foundation’s work. “Over the years, thousands of brilliant but needy students have benefited from scholarships, while school infrastructure projects, community reading programmes, and mobile learning initiatives have expanded access to quality education in underserved communities.”

In the health sector, the Foundation has invested in improving access to quality healthcare through the construction and rehabilitation of health facilities, medical outreach programmes, and maternal and child health interventions. She highlighted a notable achievement: “The provision of a 20-bed maternity ward at the Manhyia Government Hospital has significantly enhanced maternal healthcare delivery in the area”.

Recognizing the link between public health and basic infrastructure, the Foundation has also invested in water and sanitation. “Numerous boreholes, water systems, and sanitation facilities have been constructed in communities, schools and health centres, contributing to improved hygiene standards and a reduction in water-borne diseases”, Mrs. Oppong–Peprah said.

Culture and heritage preservation is another key pillar. “Through targeted programmes, the Foundation has promoted Asante heritage, strengthened indigenous knowledge systems, supported cultural education, and reinforced the role of traditional institutions as partners in national development”, she added.

“Over the past 25 years, the Otumfuo Osei Tutu II Foundation has partnered with government institutions, traditional authorities, corporate bodies, development partners, and international organisations to expand the reach and impact of its interventions nationwide”, she noted.

Highlighting the Foundation’s commitment to empowering women and girls, Ms. Oppong–Peprah disclosed, “Cenba Graduate Institute has announced a partnership with the Foundation as the headline sponsor of the Lady Julia Mentorship Masterclass, scheduled for March 8, 2026, to mark International Women’s Day. The programme will focus on mentoring girls in Senior High Schools, inspiring leadership, confidence and academic excellence.”

She further called on corporate Ghana and purpose-driven individuals to partner with the King’s Foundation. “It looks to the future, and the Otumfuo Osei Tutu II Foundation has reaffirmed its commitment to deepening partnerships, embracing innovation, and sustaining interventions that promote inclusive development and nation-building in Ghana.”

“Through its entrepreneurship and economic empowerment programmes, the Foundation has equipped youth and women with skills and support for small-scale enterprises, fostering self-reliance and local economic growth”, she concluded.
