An Opinion Piece on the Political Journey of Muhammad Bawah Braimah
In the often turbulent world of Ghanaian politics, where power shifts and promises frequently overshadow tangible progress, the story of Ejura Sekyedumase stands as a remarkable exception. At the heart of this narrative of consistent development and political resilience is one name. Muhammad Bawah Braimah.
His journey from an outstanding Municipal Chief Executive to a record breaking Member of Parliament is not just a personal triumph. It is a profound lesson in servant leadership, political strategy and the power of grassroots connection.
The Foundation of Adwumawura
Braimah’s political career began not with legislative aspirations but with executive action. As the Municipal Chief Executive, he did not merely occupy an office. He transformed the municipality. His tenure as Municipal Chief Executive was characterized by a project oriented leadership style that produced a variety of developmental initiatives. This remarkable performance earned him the enviable recognition of Hardwork Municipal Chief Executive in the Ashanti Region and the Second Best Municipal Chief Executive in Ghana.
This period set a crucial precedent. Braimah’s leadership became defined by unity, togetherness and openness to all views regardless of political color. In a constituency where development needed new direction, his hands on approach forged an immediate connection with the people. It was during this era that he earned the respected title Adwumawura, meaning the King of Work. This name was not a political slogan. It was a sincere expression of trust from the people based on visible delivery.
A Political Watershed Moment
The trust established during his Municipal Chief Executive tenure became the foundation for his legislative success. In 2016, with the confidence of the people firmly behind him, Braimah contested the parliamentary seat which was then held by the NPP candidate Salisu Bamba. Through his track record and strong grassroots acceptance, he reclaimed the seat for the NDC with an impressive margin of more than three thousand votes. It was a victory for competence and service minded leadership.
Most importantly, he continued to deliver even while serving in opposition at the national level. His ability to attract and implement projects despite the political limitations deepened the confidence of his constituents. His tirelessly efforts in securing opportunities for his constituents defines his service to humanity.
Making Unprecedented History
The true measure of his political strength emerged in the 2020 elections. While many incumbent Members of Parliament struggled across the country, Braimah received an extraordinary renewal of mandate from his people. He won by a surprising and unprecedented margin of more than ten thousand votes. Such an endorsement did not happen by chance. It reflected the deep satisfaction of the constituents he served.
Today, history has been written in bold letters in Ejura Sekyedumase. By securing the parliamentary seat for a third consecutive time, Muhammad Bawah Braimah becomes the first Member of Parliament in the constituency to achieve this historic accomplishment. He has transformed a previously swing constituency into a stronghold built on trust and sustained development.
As Speaker of Parliament Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin once stated, You cannot lead if you do not know how to serve. The political career of Muhammad Bawah Braimah is the embodiment of this wisdom. He first proved his service as a Municipal Chief Executive, and he has continued that service as a Member of Parliament with dedication and humility.
His achievements, the overwhelming margins of victory, the continuous flow of developmental projects and the history making third term, are clear indicators of a leadership model that places work and the welfare of constituents above every other consideration.
He is not only a man of politics. He is a man of action. A true Adwumawura whose experience and commitment have become a priceless asset to Ejura Sekyedumase and to the National Democratic Congress. His leadership stands as a blueprint for how local impact can rise above national political tides and inspire generations.
