Agotime-Ziope MP supports District Health response to Mpox outbreak

Hon. Charles Agbeve, Member of Parliament for Agotime-Ziope, has contributed GHS 25,000 to bolster the district’s efforts in managing the recent Mpox cases.

The financial support enabled health professionals to mobilize essential resources and respond swiftly to the public health threat. Following their prompt action, the district has now been officially declared Mpox-free.

A total of 55 contacts were identified and placed under surveillance, while the confirmed patient was transferred to the regional isolation centre. The District Health Management Team (DHMT) also conducted extensive public education campaigns to minimize the potential impact of the outbreak on the community. After 21 days without new cases, the DHMT formally declared Agotime-Ziope free of Mpox.

In a continued effort to safeguard community health, Hon. Agbeve sponsored an additional round of health screenings in communities where contacts were identified, including Dohia, Dzramave, and Logonkor. Health services will also be extended to Atsrulume, a boundary community with Akatsi South District, to educate residents on public health issues and assist with the renewal of National Health Insurance subscriptions.

The MP expressed deep appreciation to the District Health Management Committee and the Emergency Response Team for their professionalism and dedication in managing the outbreak. He also thanked the District Chief Executive and Assembly members for their support, which played a key role in the successful containment of the virus.

Hon. Agbeve emphasized the importance of collective responsibility in preventing future health crises, urging residents to maintain healthy lifestyles and uphold clean and safe community environments.
