Ghana reaffirms commitment to digital inclusion at WTDC-25

Ghana has reiterated its commitment to building an inclusive and sustainable digital future during the World Telecommunication Development Conference (WTDC-25).

In her presentation in Baku, Azerbaijan, the Chairperson of the National Communications Authority, Ms. Mavis Ampah, outlined a comprehensive policy statement that showcased the country's progress and highlighted key areas where collaboration is essential.

She stated that the Rural Telephony and Digital Inclusion Programme has connected over one million previously unserved citizens, while the One Million Coders programme equips youth with essential digital skills.

Ms. Ampah emphasized the need for affordable connectivity, digital skills development, and AI capacity-building, calling on the international community to support Ghana's efforts.

“Ghana proposes that WTDC-25 amplify support in four key areas: technical assistance for affordable infrastructure, market interventions to reduce mobile data costs, scalable digital skills and AI capacity-building, and gender-responsive initiatives,” she stated.

The Chairperson noted that Ghana's participation in WTDC-25 underscores its commitment to leveraging digital technologies for national development and global cooperation.

“The country's focus on inclusivity and empowerment, particularly through Girls-in-ICT programmes, serves as a model for other nations to follow,” she added.

Ms. Ampah also mentioned that as Ghana seeks support for its re-election to the ITU Council and its candidacy for the Radio Regulations Board, the country's digital transformation agenda is poised to drive economic growth and improve the lives of its citizens.
