The Ho Municipal Assembly has announced that the Ho Central Market and all lorry parks will operate around the clock beginning January 1, 2026.
Public education and sensitisation on the initiative will start in December as part of the Assembly’s efforts to prepare traders, transport operators, and residents for the transition.
To strengthen security at the Central Market, the Assembly has installed streetlights at key locations and is setting up a Market Management Committee to oversee day-to-day activities. The Assembly is also allocating available market stores to the public to support revenue mobilisation.
According to the Municipal Chief Executive, this move follows persistent disturbances and the activities of miscreants in the central market, making improved lighting and supervision necessary.
The announcement was made during the General Assembly Meeting held on November 18 and 19, 2025, where the MCE also noted that additional streetlights had been received for township lighting projects.
As part of broader development plans, the Assembly has allocated GH₵8,025,334.00 from the District Participatory Assessment Tool for the construction of a two storey hostel facility at the Ho Market and a large shade at the new Titrinu Market. The Assembly intends to invest GH₵7,735,479.00 in the two major structures, while GH₵289,864.00 will support capacity building.
The 24 hour market project, initially planned for the Civic Centre, has now been relocated to the Titrinu new market site. The Assembly is working with the Lands Commission’s Land Valuation Unit to finalise compensation for affected landowners.
The Municipal Assembly says the new 24 hour operating system will boost economic activity, enhance security, and improve the living conditions of residents. Ongoing projects, including lighting improvements and infrastructure upgrades, form part of the Assembly’s commitment to creating a vibrant and secure commercial environment for the people of Ho.
