Mr. Felix Kwasi Owusu-Adjapong, former Minister for Parliamentary Affairs and one of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential aspirants, has noted that campaigning within the party for a primary election is far different from preparations towards general elections.

According to him, the strategies for the two types of elections were miles apart, stressing that in the case of primaries, there was no need for much noise.

He has therefore promised to make more use of information technology and the internet to market himself than resort to fanfare.

Speaking to the media in Accra yesterday soon after he had picked his nomination forms at the party headquarters, the former Majority Leader in Parliament said his silence all this while was for strategic reasons.

He stressed also that contrary to speculations in a section of the media, he had no intention whatsoever to chicken out of the race or split votes for any other parson's advantage, and appealed to delegates to shun those rumours.

He said the decision to run was largely informed by calls from various stakeholders and party activists, who had recognized his leadership qualities and wanted him to lead the nation.

“Having presented these facts to them, they have endorsed my intention to enter the contest and promised me of their support and cooperation,” he said.

Describing himself as a Traditional Statesman, Mr. Owusu-Adjapong said what makes him different from the rest is that he would be customary, civil and digital in his campaign and hoped delegates would look for a person who can win more marginal and floating votes for the NPP.

“My appeal to members of our party is to choose someone who embodies the best this party has to offer, to lead us. And that person is Felix Kwasi Owusu-Adjapong,” he concluded.

Mr. Owusu-Adjapong, a land economist, obtained a Master of Science (MSC) in Urban Land Appraisal at the Reading University, England in 1973.

Other aspirants who have so far launched their campaigns include Nana Akufo-Addo, Alan Kyerematen, Dr. Addo Kufuor and Prof. Mike Oquaye.
