Ghana is set to receive a $100 million investment from Japanese agribusiness firm Degas Limited to drive technology-enabled farming in the country.
President John Dramani Mahama announced the development in a social media post on Friday, August 22, following a meeting with Degas founder and CEO, Doga Makiura, in Yokohama, Japan.
According to President Mahama, the investment will be rolled out over the next four years to establish Ghana as an AI-powered agricultural hub.
Degas has already financed more than 86,000 smallholder farmers across 122,000 acres, doubling incomes with a 95 percent repayment rate.
“Ghana has secured a major boost for our agricultural transformation. I met with Doga Makiura, CEO and founder of Degas Limited, here in Yokohama, who announced a $100 million investment over the next four years to help establish Ghana as an AI-powered agricultural hub,” President Mahama wrote.
He added that the partnership will leverage AI-driven satellite monitoring and precision agriculture to strengthen value chains, improve food security, and create more jobs for the youth.
“This is a strong vote of confidence in Ghana’s vision for integrated, technology-enabled agriculture—and we are ready to deliver,” the President stated.
Meanwhile, the announcement came a day after the President co-chaired the second plenary session of the ongoing 9th Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD).
