Pay the contractor to make Pokuase-Nsawam road motorable — Kamal-Deen Abdulai to Gov’t

A Deputy Communications Director of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Alhaji Kamal-Deen Abdulai, has urged the government to make the necessary arrangements for the contractor to fix the Pokuase-Nsawam road project.

He called on the Ministry of Finance to ensure that enough funds are allocated to Maripoma Enterprises Limited, the firm in charge of the project.

Speaking on Accra-based Channel One TV’s Breakfast Daily on Monday, August 18, the NPP spokesperson stressed that the current state of the road requires a non-partisan approach.

“If the compensation is the issue, the Finance Ministry has given 4 billion Ghana cedis to the Roads Ministry. They should instruct them that out of the 4 billion, they should pay the contractor 700 million cedis.

“So, I think this is straightforward. It can be solved. Let’s tackle it head-on. The people living there are also Ghanaians, and they even voted more for NDC,” he said.

He added, “Now, in this matter, let us, with all respect, take a bit of politics out of it and look at the technical issues.”

His comments come amid growing concerns from drivers and passengers who have described the Pokuase-Nsawam stretch as a death trap.

Transport operators have already threatened a sit-down strike over the poor state of the road unless immediate measures are taken to make it motorable.

Meanwhile, the Minister for Roads and Highways, Governs Kwame Agbodza, has disclosed that government has released funds to the contractor to begin works on the project.
